Summary[]
In her flashback, Robin's teacher tells her about The vulture and the little girl's origins: taken by Kevin Carter in 1993 in a famine stricken Sudan, it gained worldwide headlines and brought much needed aid to the area, and Carter even won a Pulitzer prize for it. However, overcome with the pain of not being able to do something to fix all the cruelties in the world, he committed suicide a year after taking the photo. To further complicate matters, some people criticized the photo, wondering if it captured the truth.
As Robin remarks photographs can't lie, then questions if they can, her teacher notes some of the criticisms: some say the vulture was near a trash pile and Carter just happened to frame it so it looked like it was after the child, others say the child was actually a boy, and yet still others say the mother was in line for aid while the child waited nearby. What is apparent is that the child is starving, but it's unclear if the child was actually in any immediate danger or not and if so, why didn't Carter interfere. However, the truth mattered little: all the pain of that moment and in the world drove Carter to commit suicide. Robin's teacher then asks Robin if this is really the kind of life she wants, noting there's other ways to heal. Robin, thinking to herself, notes she has no other ways.
Back in the present, Robin is laid out on her bed with Frey watching over her as she opens her eyes. Concerned, Frey asks if she's ok and Robin confirms she is. He then tells her she did well and the photos are unbelievable before asking if she'll be ready in time for the next mission. Robin then briefly remembers the question her teacher asked her before giving a resounding yes.
